Changing shapes (3)
Just tap on a vertex you need to change, select the Metrics tab in the properties window and change the coordinate to your custom value.
Tap on a line or polygon side you need to change, select the Metrics tab in the properties window and tap the Length property to input your custom values.
Tap the angle you need to change, go to the Metrics tab and select the Angle property to input your custom value.
Tools (8)
The protractor tool lets you measure angles. You can also draw lines at an angle. When tool is active you should see two lines displayed: base line and angle line. You can move the base line's end and middle points to align it with a line or other objects. You can then move the end point of the angle line to measure an angle.
Protractor's angle line has three different modes of operation controlled by the button displayed in its middle point. The default mode is rotation used to measure angles. If you tap the button you can also activate drawing or resizing mode. When in drawing mode, you can draw lines at the current angle by dragging the end of the line. Resizing mode lets you change the length of the line angle without changing its angle.
Snapping is used to precisely locate objects either in relation to the coordinate grid or to other objects. For example you can move the end point of one line close enough to the midpoint of an another one and it automatically snaps to the midpoint. A point can snap to another point, to a line or to a circle. It also snaps to the intersections of the grid lines. Snapping also comes into play when you create parallel, perpendicular and tangent lines. You can turn on/off different kind of snapping in the snapping menu.
To draw a parallel line for an existing line, you activate the Parallel Line tool and then hold and drag an existing line.
You have two options for drawing perpendicular lines: perpendicular from a point and perpendicular to a point. Perpendicular from a point requires you to tap an origin point and then tap an existing line. To draw a perpendicular line to a point you just need to tap a point on an existing line.
Creating a tangent line from a point is similar to creating a regular line. Just start creating a line and move it close enough to become a tangent to the given circle. The line snaps to the tangent line automatically.
You can also build a tangent line through a point on a circle. You need to activate the Tangent tool and then tap a point on a circle. You can build tangent lines for ellipses, parabolas and hyperbolas the same way.
The intersection is detected automatically and you can use it right away without creating additional objects. For example, you can snap to intersections by just moving a point close enough.
You can get even more for lines intersections. Just tap the intersection and select Create Intersection in the popover menu. A new point will be created at the intersection with all intersection angles displayed. Tap the point again to modify its properties or to remove it.
Tap the line and find “Show midpoint” property in the properties popup. Turn the property on. The midpoint becomes visible for the line. Turn the property off if you don’t need the midpoint anymore.
Tap the segment and find “Show Golden Section” property in the properties popup. Turn the property on. The golden section point becomes visible for the line. Turn the property off if you don’t need the point anymore.
Built-in calculator is only available on iPad and Android tablets. Tap the calculator icon on the toolbar to bring up the calculator. On iPad you can also use the tap and hold gesture to copy/paste calculator values (version 2.6.0 and older).
Transformations (3)
You can use the Rotation transformation for that. You can either rotate all shapes (default) or only the selected ones. To select the shapes you need to rotate:
- Activate the Rotation transformation
- Tap the Transformation button on the app title bar and uncheck the shapes you don't want to be rotated
A rotation circle will appear on the screen. Just grab the right most point on the circle and drag it to define the rotation angle. You can also move the entire circle by dragging its center point to change the center of the rotation.
Activate the Reflection tool. A line with the Flip button will appear on the screen. Move the line to define the axis of reflection. Next, press the Flip button to complete the reflection.
You can also use the Transformation button to select the objects you need to transform or configure the transformation to copy objects.
Activate the Enlargement tool first. A point named 'Center' will appear on the screen. Drag the point to setup the center of the transformation. Now you should tap, hold and drag any point far enough away from the Center point. That will change the factor of the enlargement. The distance between the Center point and the location of your second tap defines the scale factor of 1. So for or more or less granular enlargement you just need to vary the location of your second tap.
You can also use the Transformation button to select the objects you need to transform or configure the transformation to copy objects.
Documents and Sharing (3)
When saving a document you can choose the destination storage in the window title combo box. Your device is the default storage. But you can change it to either iCloud or Dropbox.
On iPad you can go to the Share screen, select the destination format (PNG, PDF or document) and then click the Share icon. Then select Dropbox in the new window. You will be presented with an another window to select your destination.
On Android you can select either of the Share options and you will be presented with a standard share screen where the Dropbox option should be present.
On Mac just save the document to your Dropbox folder.
SVG does not support multiline text objects. You can work your way around it by manually entering line breaks into the multiline text objects in your document.
Settings (2)
Yes, you can. Go to the application settings page and turn off either one of the parameters or both.
Yes, you should turn off the 'Auto Deactivate Tools' setting in the application settings window. If the setting is off then you need to manually activate the default tool (left most toolbar button) to be able to scroll and zoom again.
Hello,
I am a third grade teacher and LOVE this app for our unit in geometry. I am having kids create drawings with certain conditions and they are learning a lot and loving it. We are having trouble with saving into dropbox. When we save to dropbox it does not give us the folders we would like. It puts the file in the general folder. Are you considering an update that would include a more detailed dropbox interface?
Thanks again for creating this app we really love it!
Warmly,
Mary M. Miller

Hi Mary,
We’re happy to hear you’re enjoying Geometry Pad and found a good use for it in a classroom.
It should be already possible to save into folders on Dropbox. You need to press the Edit button and it will display two extra options at the bottom: Delete and Create Folder. By pressing Create Folder you can create a sub folder in the current location. When a new sub folder is created you need to select it and then input a file name for your document. Just tested this in Geometry Pad+ 1.5.0 and it seems to be working well. Please e-mail us through the Feedback form inside the app if you need any further assistance.
Thank you,
Geometry Pad team
I was wondering whether it is possible to lock an object in place. It is quite difficult to select an object when there are a number of points or lines in vicinity of each other.
Really enjoying the app though.
Cheers
Mark
Hi Mark,
Thank you for your question below. And I’m happy to hear that you’re enjoying the app so far.
I understand the problem with selecting an object when there are other objects around. It is something I’m currently working to resolve. The new solution will become available as part of the next update.
Locking objects is not yet possible. But I’m planning to include something like that in one of the future updates (not the next one though).
Please keep an eye on the new versions and let me know if you have any further questions or suggestions.
Best,
Evgeny
